The OP here has found a pattern that builds on that same prediction, and should extend into 2008. If that pattern holds its 6 month jumps initially, then stagnation later by 2nd quarter. Lets see if it does.
Of course if 10K people do show up at the DC rally, then none of this might be needed. If enough senators can be convinced that what we are facing is really a big problem and easily fixable (atleast recapture of 200K visas and exemption of dependents if not a bump up in annual limits) then the dates will be C C all through 2008.
All the east-coasters who saw the effect of the San Jose rally: its your turn now to up the ante and go one step ahead. The results of not showing up for that rally is literally a guarantee that only a tiny percentage of us will get I-485 approvals for the next two years!!! and things might improve even with a new president ONLY if we rally then! think about that!! not doing anything is a guarantee of long long waits...

I got this from different website(not sure if I can quote here).
Before going /planning for a perticular consualte, you can email the consulate with a i797 copy asking them to check if it exists in their system. If it doesn't then they will request concerned athorities to make it available in system so that you won't get stuck with PIMS delay. So far I have heard mexico/canada consualte responding to emails positively.
I will be mailing(canada consulate) them soon. Will keep you updated if i hear anything from them. if it works..its indeed a good options for us.:D

First of all, you can go any consulate in india, which ever gives you earliest date.
Nowadays, one can get a visa appointment within 10days. But have you asked someone in india to pay Rs.4600 in HDFC bank towards visa appointment? You have to send the first 2 pages of your passport (scan & email or fax) so that someone can carry that to HDFC to fill the application. It takes 2 days to get activated in the system. THEN ONLY, you can go online and provide all the details, look for dates available. Once you select the option of "citizen of india, but working in US" it opens up option to chose from any of the 4 consulates.
Most important thing is YOU MUST carry the original HDFC bank receipt (yellow colour) alongwith your appointment letter (downloaded) and passport.
Make sure that YOU WILL take the print out of the application (2 sides of the same page). Yes even in delhi also, you can take your passport personally on the next day at VFS office (somewhere in delhi). but to do so, you MUST present the pink copy of the HDFC receipt

I showed my 485 Receipt notice as evidence and renewed my licence. You don't have to always produce EAD (then every 2 year you have to renew the licence).
If your 485 is pending for long, You can contact USCIS over phone and create service request. USCIS will send you a letter saying that your case is pending because of so and so reason. You can take that along with you, if the BMV is asking why your 485 is pending for long.

Congratulations !!
Looks like TSC abandoned online status updates and emails. My case has been assigned to an officer (again) and enroute to I-485 manager as of Feb 3rd 2008 ( senator feedback ). So far no LUD's or emails.. Looks like instead of checking for emails every other minute , I have to wait for regular mail now.. unfortunately I can do that only once per day !! :( ..

The September rally was a disaster!!!! We were promised CIR reform in the beginining of this year. Even after a rally, what has been achieved? Nothing!
I am sorry for sounding pessimistic, but despite all attempts we have been successful. Is this because of our cause getting mixed up with illegal immigration? Is it due to inaction on part of lawmakers? Is it due to ineffective lobbying by IV? Or is there a need to change the IV strategy and leadership?
What is the cause, people?
With all due respect, why on earth do you think this type of outburst is productive?
Were you involved in the rally? No.
Are you active in your state chapter?
What makes you think you are qualified to make this kind of outburst? Unless, of course, your aim was to be thoroughly disrespectful to dedicated people working for no thanks to make your life better.

I applied in early August too but haven't received mine yet. I had delayed applying for my AP and current one expired last week, in the meantime it is possible that I may have to visit India since my dad has suddenly been hospitalized. Is there a way to get an Emergency AP?

I haven't done it myself, but when they lost my approved AP in the mail, I tried the route of going to the local USCIS office to get a duplicate one. They said there is nothing they could do and only could issue an emergency one. I expect you will have to provide some supporting documents to show your emergency.
In my case, we had to apply for fresh AP again and we are still waiting. That was a loss of over 600 dollars and counting. This system is painful!

This is a very basic question and I need answer on this as early as possible and guidance from you.
I came to this country in Dec 2001 on H1B Visa.
I never applied for green card since then.
Now on Dec1,2007 my H1B expires so I will have to go back to China.
If I file for green card at this point, will I be able to get the yearly extension for next few years till my GC comes?
Am I even eligible to do so?
Can I go to Canada and still work in USA (Since I live close to canadian border)?
If you have gone for out of US vacations etc, you can claim "absence time" to extend H1 beyond Dec 2007. For example, if total time outside US is 3 months then you can extend H1 until Mar 1st 2008.
This gives little more time to get I-140 approved and file for 3 year H1 extension based on approved I-140.

Come one folks. Since posting this, I had another beautiful addition to my family and then a minor surgery. Any insights or opinion will be highly appreciarted.
Congrats on your family addition. Any advise on your AOS is really dicey-- more so, when uscis follows their own rules at their whims. Even if they decided favorably for someone, no body can be sure what the IO handling your case decides. I will say play safe and go by the advise of an experienced attorney.
